Lilo is a girl, she never has pregnancy, she is a cleanaholic and she is now 6 years old. Rabbit's life span is 6 years. Which means now my fragile Lilo is going to leave me very soon.
The day before I come back to KL, I brought her to the vet because her stomach bloats like a balloon. I wonder it is caused by tangled fur that she swallowed or just because she is fat.
EeKie accompanied me to the animal clinic.
When we reached there, there's two middle-size dogs at the counter. And Lilo caught their attention. Both of the dogs looking at Lilo attentively. I was very worry, trying to cover Lilo from them.
To me, dogs LOVE to bark at rabbit and chase them. I was afraid that the dogs will go crazy and attack her. Luckily, this two obedient dog are well controlled by their owner and they just remained where they are ;)
Miss Vet picked her out from the cage, flipped her over, used her finger to feel what is inside her stomach, lastly she held Lilo's stomach in her hand, and pressed. When she pressed, Lilo is exhaling. Miss Vet then explained that is masuk angin.
*Phew* just when I thought I can leave, Miss Vet then squeezed one of her nipples, I see a light pink swollen nipple some black spot behind it. She said :"See, her nipple is swollen and there is tumour behind it."
O.M.G. Did Miss Vet just said she has tumour in her nipple = BREAST CANCER?!! I am shocked and I am scared. I don't want Lilo to suffer from cancer!!
While waiting for Miss Vet for further explaination, she squeezed and checked the other 5 nipples. She found the other 2 on the nipple next to the first one. I am so damn scared now.
She then asked me some random question about her appetite, her daily activities, her living condition and her age.
I asked :"Is she having breast cancer?"
Miss Vet said :" No, so far, if her appetite is okay and still running around your house, she is not having cancer. These tumours are neutral and not yet transform into bad tumours. But it will spread. Maybe spread to the other 3. Usually female rabbits that didn't give birth will have high chances to get breast cancer. Same like human."
I was going to cry. But I controlled. If not I will be quite shameful to tears infront of them.
Miss Vet do not suggest Lilo for operation because she is quite old now. She cannot guarantee that she will survive during or after the operation. It may takes time for her to recover from the operation. So she suggested we let her do anything she wants to do, but must look after her appetite, and check her nipple often. Her appetite will reduce and become less active if her tumour transform into cancer cells.
"Since she is taking a good care on herself so I think it shouldn't be a big problem for her."
We then left and went back home.
I googled and studied that the tumours are mammary tumours. The best way to prevent it from spreading is to spay her. But, Lilo is so old now. How to perform operation on her?
Sigh. I cannot do anything to help her, but to let her enjoys her last days.
I considered to spay Tutu and Bitbit. But rabbits are so fragile, what if they can't make it through the operation. I don't want to lose them now. Guess I'll call Miss Vet and ask for her opinion.
Ohh. Luckily Ponyo is spayed ;)
Weeks after we visited the vet, Lilo didn't act strangely at all, she looks very fine and normal. Mom said everyday she is playing and running around.
So I guess Miss Vet is right, Lilo, the cleanaholic, is taking care of herself and try not to be sick. Mammary tumours are almost unavoidable for unspayed rabbit so I think Lilo herself is preventing herself to get cancer. What a good girl!
My baby Lilo. Time just passed quickly and I don't realise that you're already 6 years old. Now u're already a grandmother rabbit. But to me, you're still a baby to me.
Soon or later you're going to leave me and accompanies Ah Law. I don't know how will you die. I just hope you're blessed that you do not suffer when you die. Don't be Ah Law, she suffered for weeks before she dies.
So, pray together with me! I want Lilo to die happily and peacefully!!
=)
