false pregnancy alarm !

Remember I tweeted few days ago that my dress was found in my rabbit's tunnel? That was pretty silly but I think she is smart. My rabbits are always smart.

I assumed that the culprit is BitBit (the left white-grey Mctwisp looking fella) because she built that tunnel, so logically she is the owner of the tunnel.

Msg-ed my dad : Your wong choy stole my dress.. (my dad gave a nickname to BitBit)
He then replied : Report police. ha ha ha

The next day, I saw Lilo hurried herself to the tunnel with something in her mouth. Right after she entered the tunnel, BitBit followed and weirdly something is keeping her outside the tunnel. She then sniffed at the entrance and suddenly Lilo busted out from the tunnel and chased BitBit away!!!

I then realized that Lilo is having false pregnancy. Just when I thought only Lilo is going through this, my baby tutu too!!! Because she was allowed to go into the tunnel and and and...she carried the dried grass as well! Oh no.

Now I know who is the culprit. Is either Lilo or Tutu.

Poor BitBit, her tunnel is forcibly possessed by both of them. And she was boycott by the other two because she isn't facing the same situation.

For your information, false pregnancy alarm happens on female rabbits, whether they have gave birth or not. Naturally they thought they are pregnant because of the hormone changes. They will start looking for a safe spot to give birth to their babies. Like what my rabbit did, they will start to collect dried grass, leaves, anything that is potential to make a warm bedding for their babies.

In this case, my dress -.-

Usually false pregnancy happens one day or two days. I thought that's all.

The next day, I saw something that scared me!

Lilo is pulling her fur vigorously from her chest!!!

She just pull and pull and pull non stop till it is mouthful, like this!

Ouch!!!! This is soooo hurting. Don't worry. It is naturally normal to rabbits. I read that from a book. Is just, when it happens on my rabbits (yes tutu did the same thing too! now she look obviously slim because she pulled her chest fur. Told you my rabbit wasn't fat. is the fur that makes her look like fat), it's so weird and disgusting. I want to stop her. I can't just sit there and let her go through all this pain!

Eventually I did nothing as my mom said let it be. This is their critical moment where they strongly feel that they have to protect the nest. They might attack me if I tried to stop them.

The next day, I went to look at the tunnel and surprisingly it was covered. No more tunnel, no more entrance! It was filled with soil, and sealed firmly. What the?

I then sort out everything and start laughing.
First I went to check out BitBit and confirmed my theory.
Then I looked around the house and again, my theory is confirmed. *grins*

My theory is : BitBit was left out by the rest, and her tunnel was occupied by others. She got furious and mad. So she ruined the tunnel and closed it. She has the ability of building and ruining her tunnels. It happened few times that if her tunnel was disturbed, she'll ruined it by herself.

Her paws are dirty and stained with muds. Was raining yesterday night so the soils are wet and muddy. Confirmed that she has been doing something related to soils. Secondly, there was mud paw print around my house. I traced them and it led me to BitBit's favourite spots.

Hahaha. Cute enough to willing to work all night long under the rain, just because she felt intruded.

A little reminder here to rabbit owner or who plan to keep a rabbit, please spay your female rabbits within 1 year after she was born if you don't plan to breed her. If not, they'll have false pregnancy and these false alarm will actually affect their health.
Mine is little too late because both are 2 years and above, surgeries are risky and might kill them. Baby rabbits are fragile so they can't really take surgery either. Rabbits are just.....too......fragile.

Their body will react to these false pregnancy as if they are really pregnant. Like their uterus will contract and the contraction will caused pain. And they will emits some milky liquid from their nipple, something like milk but not milk. The nipple will then swells and at last, tumor forms.
For lilo, there are already some tumor and fortunately it isn't fatal tumor.

=)
