My own Douphinoise Potato.

I am showing my passion to potatoes lately.

Potato is one of the best thing ever comes to my life.
Whatever food cooked by mama or grandma that contains potato such as potato soup, curry chicken, pork, and so on, I finish all the potatoes instead of the meat.
You don't think that I'm wasting the animal who died just to be my dinner.

It is just the potato has the charm *huhu* and it chews like meat.

Not all food made from potato will attracts me. I dislike french fries and potato chips.
It is soooo fattening.

Boiled potato has zero calories but fried potato contains calories that will caused u fat.
They are like oil sponge. The oil amount they adsorbed during cooking are as same as their size.

So don't eat so much potato chips and fries lah.

I done some searching in the internet for recipe of potatoes food especially western style.
Since spicy isn't my thing and cheesy creamy are always my choice so the western will suits me the best.

Yeah I got hundreds of result so I start it with the douphinoise potato that I'm addicted to lately.
I mentioned in my previous post.

Ingredients needed are of course potatoes, double cream, some milk, cheese, salt, black pepper, and thyme as u prefer.

Double cream. Hmm, I wonder where to get it since it isn't a common food in supermarket. So I went to Carrefour but they didn't sell it.
Then I went to some bakery shop they tell me they don't sell double cream.
The weather is freaking hot during afternoon and I start feeling irritated.
Until I went to Sherwood, my uncle told me double cream is actually whipped cream.

*deng* *deng* *deng*

I walked to Pantai Selamat. it cost Rm16 per litre but I don bring enough cash and dare not to borrow from my uncle.

(got scolded by my mom coz I ask her to buy for me instead of borrow $ from my uncle. sigh.)

In the end I drove back to Carrefour and bought the whipped cream using my debit card.

Okay, end of the story of ingredients buying.

Boiled the potatoes, sliced it, cooked the cream, then arrange it layer by layer into a container then baked!

Before I baked, I start questioning myself.
The douphinoise potato in croc rock doesn't look like this.
Why mine is so wattery? (the photo below)

Nvm, I was way too excited and quickly sent it into oven.

*tick tock tick tock*

After half an hour, I can smell the creamy outside the oven.
Oohlala. Took a deep breathe and smiled.

Take it out and the result is like this.Golden and a bit brownish. Exactly what it described in the recipe.

I cut some and eat.

During the cut I knew this wasn't douphinoise potato because a lot of milk dashing out between layers!

It looks like this, tell me it is attracting!

Nice huh?

It taste just fine, a bit less salt, the potato are soft enough, the cream is nice =)

There was some failure, however I consider it is success because it can be eat.

Haha, since I still have some potato so I decided to try again tmr.

On 2nd experiment, I used a smaller container and it is heart shape! awwh.
My mom thought I gonna make for my lover because the next day is Valentine's day.
haha, if I have a lover I will do it too.

This time I reduced the ammount of milk and cream, but added some Gouda cheese and more salt in the cream.
Sprinkled some black pepper in between layers and more cheeeese.

Tada!!!! this is how it looks like!

taste? aaargh. too much salt.

But still, not the douphinoise potato I want.
More to mashed potato.

Conclution : far better than yesterday!

3rd experiment coming soon!!!!

Goodnight!
